What is cupping?
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine and healing. It involves one or multiple cups made from glass, bamboo or plastic to be placed along different meridians or sections of the body. Heated cups may or may not be used in this process. The air inside the cup creates a vacuum as the skin starts to turn red- this means that circulation is beginning to flow. This will enable built-up toxins and stagnation to be pulled from tissue layers. Cupping therapy can be done quickly and effortlessly by an experienced practitioner.
How can it help?
Cupping can help a wide variety of ailments including chronic pain, sore or tense muscles, detoxification, inflammation, stress, allergies, and aide a suppressed immune system due to a cold or illness. Jill Nielsen-Farrell of Point to Point Community Acupuncture adds, “On a purely physical level, cupping has a very powerful effect on releasing muscle tension and unwinding fascia. Energetically, it clears away what no longer serves you and allows the new to come in.”
Cupping Sessions can be used in conjunction with acupuncture, myofascial release/massage, or it can provide benefit on its own. For more information- Contact Melinda Cooksey, Jill Nielsen-Farrell, or any one of our practitioners who offer cupping if you think it could be beneficial to your health.
